England 2006

Hello and welcome to my England 2006 page. Within these pages are my pictures and videos from my trip to England with my Mom and sister Pamela from September 14th through September 25. This was my first time really driving in England (although last year I did drive a couple days in Ireland). It was fun and I didn't hit a thing!!!!! I had just recently purchased a video camera so this was first time I had to contend with 2 camera hanging around my neck - what a chore.

We started off in the Stratford-Upon-Avon area to see the home of Shakespeare and spent time wandering around Warwick Castle as well. We were also blessed with seeing a friend of mine, Debbie who is living in Ireland for the time being and meeting her brother Paul and his daughter Meghan.

The second phase of the trip took us to the Nottingham area where we visited Sherwood Forest the home, of legendary character Robin Hood. We were also fortunate enough to experience a little family history here as this is where my mom's mother's side of the family, the Binghams, comes from. We believe they came from a little town just outside of Nottingham called Lamebly. The town is now quite small, so small in fact that we had difficulty finding it even with a map (not to mention the really bad street signs) but find it we did and took a look around the Parish Church and graveyard (one of my favorite things to do).

We moved from there to the Yorkshire area and our first stop were two little towns named Shelburn-in-Elmet and Saxton, where we discovered more family history only this time on my father's side of the family. The Hungate name has a long history in this area and it was pretty neat to see that there was a Hospital and a school not to mention a "wing of church" named after them. In the actual city of York you can walk up a street with the name on it(OK the street was actually closed at the time we were there so we didn't get to walk down it but we stood just at the corner). We also visited Howard Castle where they filmed BRIDESHEAD REVISITED while we were in the area and took a drive to the North Sea Coast to a town called Scarbourgh (Yes I saw a sign for the Scarbourgh fair that was coming up!)

From there we drove down towards London stopping off at Stoke-on-Trent to do some purchasing of China from the Wedgwood Factory. And purchase we did. We all got a teapot and some cups and saucers. Pamela and I liked ours so much we are in the process of purchasing more and will probably have it by the time I get this site posted. We spent 3 days in London touring the sites and scoring tickets to see the musical Mary Poppins on the west end. We spent time in the Tower of London and we topped it off by visiting Kensington Palace and buying more China (Yes more!)

Both the plane ride over and back weren't that bad and I was able to watch RV, Thank You for Smoking, American Dreamz an episode of Doctor Who and one more movie I can't flipping remember! Take a moment to take a look at the pictures and check out the videos

Thanks,
Lynn
